Here\u2019s a sample recipe:\r\n<h3><strong>Clean Out Your Cupboard Soup<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nI\u2019m going to tell you a secret about soup: you can\u2019t really mess one up. As long as you have a tasty broth as a base, which you can cheat on with bullion cubes, pretty much anything can go into a soup and come out tasting great. When I panic about how much is going unused in our fridge and cupboards, I resort to this soup.\r\n\r\n<strong>Prep time:<\/strong> 10-15 minutes, depending on how many ingredients you\u2019re using\r\n\r\n<strong>Cook time:<\/strong> 1-2 hours, depending on the mode of cooking. Shorter for a stovetop, more for a slow cooker\r\n\r\n<strong>Ingredients<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>3 cups vegetable broth (more if you like your soups with broth, less if you like them more like stew)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Possible items to include: note that all canned vegetables should be rinsed and drained before tossing them into the pot.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Black beans or beans of any kind<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Corn<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Carrots<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Celery or anything that gives a bit of crunch, like chickpeas<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Cabbage<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Edamame<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Mushrooms<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Leftover rice (either in the soup or on the side)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Potatoes<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Onions<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<em>Seasonings<\/em>:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Garlic is a staple for nearly every dish and soup is no exception<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Ginger, if you fancy an Asian flavor<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Salt<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Black pepper<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Red pepper flakes, if you like a little kick<\/li>\r\n\t<li><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Directions<\/strong>\r\n\r\nUsing the broth as a base, rinse, chop, and combine any or all of the ingredients above, including the seasonings. Be sure to monitor how much broth you might want to add, if you like a higher liquid to veggie content in your soup.\r\n\r\nCook on low for 3 hours in a slow cooker.\r\n\r\nCook on high for 1-2 hours in a slow cooker.\r\n\r\nSimmer on the stove for 4 hours.\r\n\r\nBring to a boil on the stove and then simmer for 2 hours.\r\n<h3>About the book<\/h3>\r\nYou juggle many roles for a wide range of people.
